Vaginal tightness and looseness, is a controversial topic in most relationships.
Most women complain of their vaginas being too loose, while a few complain that theirs is too tight for a penetration. Men have even gone to the extent of complaining about this especially if a woman’s vagina is too loose. Most people believe that:
1. A virgin’s Vagina is awfully tight
2. Having sexual intercourse frequently makes a vagina loose
3. A vagina’s tightness is lost as soon as one loses virginity.
Although these facts may be true, the facts of the matter are however different as seen below;
A vagina can be compared to a thick sock stuffed with a soft hand towel squeezed by two hands. The sock is the vaginal tract while the soft towel material represents muscles surrounding the vaginal tract. The hands/palms represent pelvic floor muscles that hold the vagina in position.
One thing everyone needs to understand about the vagina is that, it is made of elastic muscle tissues that are folded tightly.
These muscles work in an almost same way as muscles in the mouth, or an accordion. These muscles make it possible to stretch the mouth towards the ears, but enable the mouth to snap back to its position when released.
Doing this repeatedly doesn’t affect the mouth’s form and structure as the stretching isn’t permanent. The same happens with the vaginal muscles; they expand and contract depending on the condition or situation.
Although vaginal muscles work in an almost same way as an accordion, a few alterations make them somewhat exceptional.
These muscles remain contracted (tightly folded) until one is aroused sexually or moments before childbirth. If one becomes anxious, these muscles tighten making it almost impossible for anything to penetrate through. This is the reason why young (teenage) girls find it very hard to insert tampons in their vagina as their body is tense.
On arousal, these vaginal muscles relax a little in readiness for a penetration.
The reason why these muscles relax is because the brain translates this as a signal to facilitate reproduction. The relaxed muscles make it possible for one to take in a penetration with ease, thus making a sexual intercourse possible. A tight vagina on the other hand hampers intercourse thus reducing chances of conceiving.
Although the tissues around the vagina relax to accommodate a penis, the muscles control how ‘loose’ the vagina will be. The vulva how expands to accommodate the penetration regardless of size. These muscles expand to accommodate a ‘bigger’ penis while it contracts to put up with a ‘smaller’ penis as well.
A few instances make a vagina feel ‘too tight’ during sex. A, extremely tight vagina implies the woman isn’t interested in sex, or you (the man) rushed the foreplay meaning she wasn’t ready enough for penetration.
The most interesting thing about sexual arousal is that, it not only induces relaxation of vaginal muscles, but also increases vaginal lubrication. Lubrication enables one to penetrate with ease without ‘hurting’ the woman or making sex painful due to intense friction.
Studies reveal that, a woman can take up to 30 minutes to be fully aroused. This time can however be reduced by massaging the vagina, kissing or touching her gently. Giving your woman some time to be aroused fully gives the vaginal muscles time to relax, expand, as well as facilitate proper lubrication. Some women, however, take too long to produce the natural lubrication, which is the reason why you are advised to use a commercial lubricant instead.
Extreme vaginal tightness can also be because of vaginismus, an infection that makes muscles around the vagina to clench. See a physician if you experience painful penetration regardless of proper foreplay.
The vaginal remains ‘accommodating’ during sexual intercourse until orgasm, after which the muscles start to contract once again. This is to say the vagina doesn’t remain in the ‘loose’ condition even after the sex is over. Vaginal muscles expand when aroused, and remain contracted if one isn’t in a sexual mood.
Although having sex frequently doesn’t contribute to vaginal looseness, childbirth does contribute a little.
The reason why, is because the vagina expands all the way to allow the baby to be born. The vagina however does not remain that state for long. It starts to contract back to its normal condition as days pass by. This is the reason why mothers should take at least 6 months for maximum recovery before having sexual intercourse.
Vaginal looseness can however be compared to stretching an elastic band for an extended period of time. At first, it will snap back to its size but will soon start stretching, making it almost impossible to get to its original size. This is what happens with young women who have multiple births, as their vaginal muscle overstretch due to fatigue. The same happens when a woman gets older as muscles aren’t as elastic as they used to be.
The lifestyles that most women lead today also contribute to vaginal looseness. Most women concentrate too much on their jobs thus delaying childbirth. Most of these women only consider having children after they are 30, with some having their first child at 40. Factor in aging processes and severities of childbearing and these women’s vagina become loose in no time. This is one of the reasons why many women today complain of a ‘loose vagina’ moments after having their first child.
How To Fix Vaginal Looseness
There are several ways of compacting vaginal looseness. These include:
1. Use the missionary position (man-on-top) while having sex. This allows you (the woman) to close your legs as soon as the man lifts himself while pumping. This helps make your vagina feel tighter than before.
2. Kegel exercises are also effective as well. Kegel exercises involve contracting muscles while peeing to stop urine flow. Trying to squeeze urine drops can also help make vaginal muscles tighter too.
Although Kegels do induce vagina tightness, they do not have any impact on vaginal muscles. Kegels however help rejuvenate pelvic floor muscles that may have been fatigued due to childbearing and aging processes. This makes the vagina feel tighter than it was previously. Some patience is however needed to see results from this.
The best thing about Kegel exercises is that, they are private and can be practiced anywhere. It all begins with making the short calls count for Kegels. Trying at least 10 contractions every day is a great way to start. You should start experiencing intense orgasms as times go by, meaning Kegels will be playing their role.
If Kegels don’t work for you, it may then be time to try Ben-wa balls. Also known as vaginal cones, these sex toys play an important role of reconstructing pelvic floor muscles. All what is required is to place these vaginal cones inside the vagina, and then hold them there as you walk around. If your pelvic floor muscles are weak, the vaginal cones will fall off after a few seconds. Nonetheless, this will improve as you try to hold them for much longer. Only a physician should however prescribe which vaginal cones to use for this exercise.
If Kegels and vaginal cones do not work on you, then electrical stimulation should be your last result.
This involves having mild electrical pulses passed through a tampon inserted into your vagina to induce muscle contraction. Several therapies (lasting at least 20 minutes) are however required to see the results.
